Cleaning Carpet – a task that has been around as long as carpet has been manufactured. Originally a task attempted with nothing more than a damp cloth and then a dry towel, carpet cleaning professionals have evolved the technology to a point where actual trucks are needed to transport the equipment used to clean carpets today.

Truck mounted carpet cleaning systems are primarily utilized by professional carpet cleaners.

Professional carpet cleaners require equipment which can make the entire process of carpet cleaning more efficient.

Two basic types of Truck Mount Extractors

Truck mounted carpet cleaning machines can be divided into two basic types:

Slide-in truck mounts

Referred to as “slide-in” units because they can be put into many different vehicles and do not require power from the vehicle. This type of unit is powered by its own engine and is built within a frame or chassis that is bolted into the vehicle.

The advantages are:

• More flexibility in the type and age of the vehicle used
• Easy easy to transfer from one vehicle to another,
• Slightly lower gas consumption.

Disadvantages:

• These machines require more cargo space
• potentially they are more complex to operate
• The maintenance requirements different and more complex
• Power plant can be less reliable.
• And these machines usually cause more noise on site

Van-powered direct drive truck mounts

This type of machine is powered by the engine of the vehicle itself. A belt driven power transfer shaf extends from the front of the engine, back into the interior of the vehicle where it drives the machine components. An electric clutch similar to that used on the vehicle’s air conditioning, controls the on/off function of the unit.

The advantages are:

• Compact
• Consumes less interior space
• Requires less maintenance
• Simpler and safer to operate
• More reliable
• Quieter operation

The disadvantages are:

• Type and age of vehicle must be in line with the manufactured requirements
• More difficult to transfer to another vehicle
• Slightly higher fuel consumption.
